It’s that time of year again for the Coachella Music Festival to come around again. Coachella was held in the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California throughout two consecutive three-day weekends April 12-14, and April 19-21.
This year’s lineup featured an array of artists covering all different genres, with the main headliners being Lana Del Ray, Tyler the Creator, and Doja Cat. As well as a reunion performance from the band No Doubt, who has not played together live since 2015. Coachella also held up its reputation for its surprise guests. This first weekend of Coachella featured performances from Billie Eilish, A$AP Rocky, Childish Gambino, Paris Hilton, Justin Bieber, and many more.
As for the performances, there were plenty of highs and lows at this year’s festivals. Some artists gave outstanding performances, and others just did not seem to sit well with the fans. Some of the highlights included Olivia Rodrigo’s performance with No Doubt. Gwen Stefani called for Rodrigo to join her on stage and the two took turns singing lines from No Doubt’s biggest hits such as “Don’t Speak” and “I’m Just a Girl.”
The low points, however, mainly included the acts of two of the headliners; Lana Del Rey and Doja Cat. Fans say that both sets were riddled with microphone problems and inconsistent harmonies. The surprise performers that they brought along had similar issues. Lana Del Rey received a lot of criticism from the crowds because her typical discography was deemed “too slow” by the attendees of the show. People felt they were unable to dance to her music.
Some minor performer standouts include an entertaining performance from Chappell Roan. Roan had recently been climbing her way through the pop music world while on the road as Olivia Rodrigo’s opening act on the Guts tour. Roan rocked some glitter punk outfits while singing some of her hits such as “Femininomenon” “Red Wine Supernova” and “Hot to Go.” The performances by Chappell Roan were a pleasant addition to Coachella, surprisingly it was the artist’s first time playing at a music festival ever.
Overall, the performances at Coachella during both weekends went wonderfully. Who knows what Coachella has in store for next year?
