The Carolina Hurricanes are putting together one of their strongest campaigns in recent memory, emerging as one of the NHL’s most consistent and dangerous teams throughout the 2025–26 season. As of mid‑April, Carolina sits atop the Metropolitan Division with a 53‑22‑7 record and 113 points, securing the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and a hopeful road to the Stanley Cup Final.
Carolina’s success this year has been defined by depth, structure, and resilience. Even with injuries to key players throughout the season, the Hurricanes have maintained one of the league’s best records. Their 3.55 goals per game rank among the top offenses in the NHL, while their 2.88 goals‑against average reflects a solid defense.
Their special teams have also been a major asset. The Hurricanes boast a 24.9% power‑play efficiency, good for fourth in the league, and an 80.6% penalty kill, placing them just outside the top ten.
Sebastian Aho continues to lead the Hurricanes’ offense. With 57 points, 20 goals and 37 assists, he leads the team in scoring and remains one of the NHL’s most reliable two‑way centers.
Seth Jarvis has taken another step forward, leading the team with 25 goals and showcasing his growth as a dynamic scoring threat. Meanwhile, Nikolaj Ehlers, in his first season with Carolina, has surpassed the 70‑point mark, making him one of the most impactful additions to the roster. His power‑play production has been especially valuable, contributing to the team’s late‑season surge.
On the blue line, Jalen Chatfield leads the team with a +20 rating, while veterans like Jaccob Slavin and Shayne Gostisbehere continue to anchor a defensive corps that excels at suppressing high‑danger chances.
Perhaps the biggest storyline in Carolina’s success is the emergence of Brandon Bussi, who has delivered one of the best goaltending performances in the league this season. With a 30‑6‑2 record and a .892 save percentage, Bussi has provided stability and confidence in net, especially during stretches when the Hurricanes were missing key skaters. His ability to steal games and maintain composure in high‑pressure situations has been a defining factor in Carolina’s rise to the top of the East.
Carolina’s strong finish has been critical. Over their last 10 games, the Hurricanes have gone 7‑3‑0, keeping pace with the league‑leading Colorado Avalanche and briefly entering the Presidents’ Trophy conversation.
With one regular‑season game left and their playoff position secured, the focus now shifts to staying healthy and preparing for a first‑round matchup that could feature either the Boston Bruins or the Ottawa Senators.
With a potent offense, disciplined defense, breakout goaltending, and strong special teams, Carolina enters the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs as a legitimate championship contender.
