President Donald J. Trump’s approval ratings have dropped as his 100th day in office approaches. According to CNBC News, a trio of polls came out last week showing a majority of Americans disapproving of Trump’s handling of the presidency thus far. The approval rating in question sits between 39% to 45% in the polls. Back in January, when Trump returned to the Oval Office, his approval ratings were very different.

These polls reflect Trump losing the confidence of voters in his handling of the economy, which was his landmark promise during his 2024 presidential campaign. As cited by NBC News, the polls made by The Washington Post and ABC News shows that 72% of Americans believe it’s likely Trump’s policies will cause an economic recession.

An NBC News poll shows 61% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of inflation, 60% disapprove of how Trump’s handling the cost of living, and 45% disapprove of his handling of immigration. Immigration was also one of Trump’s other main points at the forefront of his campaign for office.

“I’m disappointed. I didn’t vote for him. I was going to give him the benefit of doubt, because I figured, you know, he could do things to help the economy and … further disappointment,”said a Virginia resident who’s worked in the federal government according to CNN News.

According to CNN News, Derek Steinmetz, a Democrat from Wisconsin, expressed concerns about Trump’s “overarching disregard for the rule, and the norms, and the structure of our government. It was a concern the first term, but it’s much worse this time around because there are fewer guardrails in place.”

The only handling of an issue that performed well in the polls was Trump’s handling of Gender Identity and Transgender Individuals. “I’m actually quite glad he said that there’s only male and female,” said Maryland resident Lisa Munson according to CNN News. “I was actually quite glad when that came out, when he put that into law, that there’s only male and there’s only female, that there’s no binary, he, she, they. There’s no they.”

Overall, the approval rating is 90% Republicans, 48% Independent Voters, and 16% Democrats. Both Trump and Vance have the same overall approval rating of 41% with a majority of 58% disapproving. Today, Trump’s current approval rating is the lowest approval rating the U.S. has seen of any newly elected-president in their first hundred days in seven decades.
