The beloved tale of a blue alien and a rebellious Hawaiian girl, whose friendship expands into an ‘ohana,’ has been reimagined in live-action. This film is set to hit theaters on May 23.
The trailer for the live-action Lilo and Stitch offers a glimpse into the heartwarming story and stunning visuals that await audiences. The trailer showcases iconic moments from the original film, such as Stitch’s Elvis impersonation and other hilarious antics.
The trailer offers an early look into the CGI and visuals of the new film. Stitch’s cartoon character is transformed into a live-action alien. Based on the trailer, it seems as though Disney captured Stitch’s dynamic expressions and personality really well. He has the same features and look as he does in the original movie, which keeps Stitch fans intrigued. CGI has also been a huge issue with Disney recently, as some of the movies they have put out have not had the best CGI budget. While this film looks promising, there’s no guarantee the CGI Stitch will provide what viewers want in this new rendition.
This film features Maia Kealoha, an eight-year-old making her debut as Lilo. While she may be young, her Entertainment Tonight interviews make her sound like a small adult. She speaks well and has great confidence and eye contact. In her Entertainment Tonight videos, she expresses a ton of excitement for the film’s release. During one interview, when asked if she’s scared to be at the premiere, she says, “I got pretty big butterflies, but then I said, ‘oh it’s just going to be people that I’m going to be talking to.’” She then goes on to discuss her excitement and love for everything going on around the movie.
Moreover, Kealoha discusses her love for reading in another Entertainment Tonight interview. She was asked about how long it took her to learn her lines, and she responded that it didn’t take her long at all. She said that she loves to read so she was able to pick up her lines pretty fast, even though this is her first acting gig. She said that she reads every day and that her favorite series right now is Dork Diaries. While people are praising Kealoha for her new role, it’s important to remember that she is just a kid who enjoys average kid activities, like reading.
This Lilo and Stitch remake is coming out during a harsh time for Disney remakes. Disney fans around the globe are highly disappointed with what the studio has been producing lately. It seems as though every new movie or show is a remake or a sequel instead of an original production. While many fans enjoy this type of media, a lot of people are outraged. As seen on social media, many people feel as if there is no genuine creativity in building off or recreating a story that has already been told. This backlash makes sense with what has been created recently, with a live-action Snow White movie, Moana 2, Mufasa, and several more. Comments on the Lilo and Stitch trailer believe that Disney has lost all creativity, and while it looks like a good movie, it’s simply a copycat of the original.
Lilo and Stitch hits theaters in May, and while the film may just be reimagined in live-action, it’s still sure to bring the heartwarming story back to theaters.
