Recently, Jason Kelce was surrounded by fans at Penn State outside Beaver Stadium when a fan called his name for a fist bump. Another fan who was nearby called out a homophobic slur in Kelce’s direction. According to People Magazine, this is what the fan shouted “‘Hey, Kelce. How does it feel if your brother’s a f—– dating Taylor Swift?’ the man asked, using the slur to refer to Travis, who has been dating Swift, 34, since 2023.” Only seconds later Kelce turned around, snatched the fan’s phone, and smashed it on the ground. Kelce picked up the phone and walked away with it leaving the fan to trail behind asking for it back. Kelce’s response was according to People Magazine “‘Who’s the f—– now?” Others began to intervene to try and diffuse the situation.
Kelce had been there in the first place to appear on ESPN’s College GameDay. People Magazine had reached out to representatives of ESPN and Jason Kelce but received no immediate response. Both brothers addressed the incident and the backlash following it on Wednesday’s episode of their podcast called New Heights. Jason said he regretted interacting with that fan who taunted him. According to NBC News Travis had this to say about the incident and Jason’s reaction to the action. “The real situation is you had some f—ing clown come up to you and talk about your family, and you reacted in a way that was defending your family, and you might have used some words you regret using,’ he said. ‘And that’s a situation that you just gotta kinda learn from and own. And I think you owning it and you speaking about it shows how sincere you are to a lot of people in this world,’ he continued. ‘Especially what you said on Monday night that you … you don’t choose hate. That’s just not who you are.”
Taylor Swift herself according to The Daily Mail has responded to the situation as well. A source close to the couple had told The Daily Mail that both Travis and Taylor were shocked by this given that in the world Jason is one of the nicest people. Jason has received support online in the days following the incident. The Daily Mail writes “Quinton Lucas, the mayor of Kansas City, wrote on X: ‘I shouldn’t say, but whatever. I appreciate Jason Kelce standing up for his family.” The Daily Mail says that the campus police have said that no one has filed an incident report as of now, Not Jason nor the fan whose phone was spiked to the ground.
