2024 is the year when artists come out of their shells and release new genres of music. For example, Beyonce goes country with Cowboy Carter, Ariana Grande released Eternal Sunshine, and Olivia Rodrigo goes semi-rock (and a bit folk) with her Guts (Spilled) deluxe album.
I will discuss the albums I am most excited about that are being released in 2024 (and the ones I am happy that came out this year).
First up: Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department.
I am very excited about this album and I am very curious about what the vibe is going to be for the album. At first, I thought it was going to be a sister album of evermore and folklore. I thought about it and realized, “No absolutely not, this is its different vibe.” Everyone already knows that this album is mostly going to be influenced by her former long-term boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, as the title is a reference to a group chat he had made with his friends, Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott, called ‘The Tortured Man Club’. I am personally excited for this album because I genuinely have no idea what kind of vibe she is going to bring with this album, all I know is the themes are black and white and part of me believes she is going to be referencing Dead Poets Society in some way. People also theorize that people in Taylor Swift’s ‘inner circle’ all changed their profile pictures to black and white not only to help promote her album but because she has written songs about their past breakup stories. I am not sure if this is true but it is fun to think about.
Second up: Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft.
I am looking forward to this album the most out of all the albums being released this year. I am a huge Billie Eilish fan and I have a feeling that this album is going to be similar to her past album WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP WHERE DO WE GO? Not similar, but the same type of eerily vibe. I only say this based on the visuals she has been hinting to her fans. But honestly, anything Billie puts out is going to be amazing cause she is extremely talented.
Going into the past now, some of the best albums that have already come out this year include Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter and Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine. Cowboy Carter was a different side of Beyonce that no one expected to hear. It was unique and creative. She gave her own little twist and showed people her true roots. It was a great album, especially for Beyoncé fans. This was also a great way for Beyonce to increase her demographic to country listeners.
With Ariana Grande’s album Eternal Sunshine, she relives her relationship with her ex-husband, Dalton Gomez, and the hurt she felt when that relationship ended. This album was amazing and I do have a review of the entire album here. I loved this album and thought it was one of her best since Thank U, Next.
Regardless, there are still many albums to come. 2024 is already shaping up to be a great year for music.
