South Park has recently entered into a new ‘era’ with a new title.
In true fashion to the show’s humor, creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker announced in a statement that in honor of their Season 29 premiere on September 16th, they will be changing the title of the beloved comedy hit in light of Trump’s recent renaming of various lakes and places across North America.
“Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of ‘South Park’ to ‘South America,’” the duo announced. “We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount — a Skydance Capitulation.”
This is just one of the comedy pair’s many digs at Donald Trump, with their previous season mocking the president and his administration. The comedy duo also mocked him in their recent Creative Arts Emmy award win for Outstanding Animated Program.
Their recent season consisted of depicting Trump in a toxic relationship with ‘Satan,’ a beloved character that was a nod from their earlier seasons. They also made popular digs at other figures in the White House, such as Kristi Noem. They also have made past digs at the president back during his first presidency in 2017, where South Park’s erratic schoolteacher Mr. Garrison was Trump’s alter ego the entire season.
On September 6th, Trump posted a map suggesting the change of the state of New Mexico’s name to New America on his Truth Social app, in which the map featured a large ‘X’ over the word Mexico replaced that caused a stir.
Trump also signed an executive order to change the name of Lake Ontario to Lake of America last month during high tensions with Canada over trade deals, where Apple and Google immediately changed the name on their respective map applications.
His other infamous change with the Gulf of Mexico’s name to Gulf of America immediately after taking office last year also helped likely inspire the new era of South Park and its never ending digs at anyone the show can think of making fun of.
