On April 28th, Oneonta’s Jewelry Making club hosted its Beads & Beverages fundraising event. After paying $3 to enter, students had access to unlimited jewelry-making supplies and mocktails. Their mocktail menu was curated by the E-Board. Each drink was fun and delicious.
The first option was a classic Shirley Temple, sweet and bubbly. Another option was a shark attack, which included blue Hawaiian punch, grenadine, and Sprite. This drink was a cool purple color and came with a complimentary Swedish Fish. Their sunrise mocktail was a mix of cranberry juice, pineapple juice, and orange juice, a drink that would pair perfectly with breakfast. Their final option was a strawberry mocktail, which was a combination of strawberry lemonade and grenadine.
Fundraising events like this are very important for clubs, such as the jewelry clubs. The funds raised at these events can help the club expand its resources, such as beads and charms. Past events, such as their lip gloss charm night, were able to happen because of previous fundraising events. The club hopes to host events similar to those in the future — events that were very popular with students.
One member of the club has been attending every meeting hosted this year. Being able to make bracelets is the main reason why this member keeps returning. They had found this niche hobby back in high school and were very excited to see that they could continue to foster their love for the craft.
Their most memorable moment of being a part of the club is when they arrived thirty minutes late to the first meeting. They were embarrassed; however, after being able to make a bracelet, they knew they would be coming back. This member would highly recommend that people join this club, stating that it is “quiet” and that the “people here are nice.” With their love for candy, the shark attack drink was their favorite of the options.
Another member looked forward to this event, being able to make bracelets along with refreshing drinks. The fondest memory this member has of the club was an event hosted for Valentine’s Day. They were able to make eye color-inspired jewelry with their best friend. It was a great way to spend time with friends while also creating something unique and special. This student was drinking the strawberry mocktail, giving it a 10/10 rating.
During this event, students made a plethora of jewelry and charms, from bracelets to rings to keychains. There was such a diverse and large spread of bead options that anything could be created. Students lent a helping hand to others and didn’t shy away from making connections throughout the room.
The club hopes that all people who came to the event realized what a lovely community this group is. It is a very calming environment with music and people who are excited to get to know you. No matter your skill level or experience in jewelry making, this club offers something for everyone.
