Following the 2006, award winning film starring Meryl Streep, Devil Wears Prada, a sequel was released this year. Returning cast members included Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. The original film, based on the 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger, follows an aspiring journalist named Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) who lands a job at a fashion magazine but finds it difficult to manage due to her demanding editor, Miranda Priestly (Merly Streep).
The film was met with great reviews and went on to become a fan favorite. Praised for its cut-throat imitation of the fashion world, and creating interesting, likeable characters. Upon its release in 2006, the film earned over $325 million at the box office, and went on to win multiple awards. In 2026, 20 years following its initial release, fans were thrilled to hear about a sequel to the once beloved film. The plot follows Andy Sachs who is now attempting to navigate a changing fashion scene. Sachs tries to follow a rapidly growing digital world, leaving printed fashion print in the past and the ways in which it is affecting her’s and others careers.
The movie received some mixed reviews as well as positive ones. Fans loved the nostalgia of the film. While others reported that the sequel wasn’t necessary and also delivered a more, disappointing and “watered down” version of the original films characters and plot. Losing the sharp edge of the fashion industry that originally drew so many people in. Others report that it’s very fitting for the time and truly shows the time in which we are living. AI and technology are advancing so rapidly that certain fields have been put at risk.
The New York Times interviewed the returning cast on what they thought of the sequel, Anne Hathaway said this “Andy has lived a life that has given her a lot of satisfaction. She did what she wanted to do, she’s had a lot of adventures. The thing that she doesn’t have, and she’s having a hard time finding, is something that a lot of people in the world are having a difficult time finding, which is job security. And so the thing that just kept coming up for me on this movie was how much she wanted a home.”
When asked what it was like to regroup to create a sequel 20 years later, Hathaway also said “I just felt like I got to be in this, like, supergroup 20 years ago and we got back together to make another album,” she explained. If you loved the first film then certainly give the second one a chance.
