Olivia Rodrigo is best known for her debut single Drivers License, which broke Spotify records and was critically acclaimed in 2021. Followed by her follow-up single Deja Vu which was equally as popular. Both songs landed on the top of the Top 100 chart, making her the first artist to have their first two releases land in the Top 10 chart. Rodrigo released her album Sour, later that year. This album would go on to become the most streamed album by a female artist.
She followed this with another album, Guts, in September of 2023. Following this, she went on a world tour, which became the highest grossing tour by an artist born in this century. On this tour Rodrigo hinted that she would be releasing a following album. As fans predicted, on April 2nd 2026, Rodrigo announced that she would release a third album titled You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. Which is set to release on June 12th 2026.
Fans were ecstatic, the first single off the album was titled ‘Drop Dead’ was announced to be released on April 17th 2026. The exciting new pop song was described as “perfectly encapsulates the all-consuming feeling of having a crush.” In an interview Rodrigo described the song as a Cure-inspired song about a crush, and the feeling of having a “perfect first date”.
Rodrigo filmed and released a music video to go along with the song, which was filmed entirely in the historic Palace of Versaille in Paris, France. Produced by Petra Collins, this is the first sort of musical production inside of the Palace of Versaille in over a decade. As well as being one of only two music videos ever filmed inside the Palace of Versailles, also being the only music video permitted to be filmed there in the 2020s.
Ahead of the album’s release, the singer is scheduled to host Saturday Night Live (SNL) on May 2nd while also performing as the musical guest, known as double duty. This will be her third appearance on the popular late night show. The first time being in 2021, where she performed Drivers License, and Good 4 U. Returning again in 2023 to perform Vampire.
Rodrigo surprised the crowd as well as other performers at Pete’s Candy Store venue in New York City on the night of April 26th with a live performance of Drop Dead. Fans have begun to speculate more about her album, anticipating its long awaited release.
