Sunday Night Football: Bills Vs Cheifs

Maeve Bidonde, Staff Writer

Sunday Night Football brings multiple NFL teams facing off against each other including the Buffalo Bills playing against the Kansas City Chiefs at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, NY giving the Bills home-field advantage. The first half saw some impressive and disappointing plays but ended with the Bills in the lead with a score of 16-14. “Air Allen”, a nickname Josh Allen has been given for his propensity for hurdle-jumping over players, had yet to make an appearance by halftime.

The Chiefs came into the game undefeated and the Bills went into the game with an 8-2 record. Both teams are coming on a winning streak; they’d respectively like to live another game. This game has had Bills and Chiefs fans on their seats after what happened in the playoffs last season. The Bills fans would like to see the Bills wipe the floor with Chiefs to avenge the playoff loss and the Chiefs fans want to see the undefeated streak remain in place. In the first quarter only 45 seconds into the game, a flag was thrown for unnecessary roughness costing the Bills a five-yard penalty. After that, the game went how they usually do with tackles and multiple downs all for one common goal, a touchdown. The Bill clinched the first touchdown in the game handing them an early lead with a 6-0 score.

The subsequent field goal attempt was no good, costing them the extra point. Next, the Chiefs take possession of the ball only for Bills player #57 to deny a complete pass. Next play Bills player Bernard sacked Mahomes on the third down. The Chiefs punt on fourth down and a flag is thrown at the return allowing the Bills to start on their 40-yard line. The announcers called it “Another great starting point” for the Bills. Quarter 1 ended with the Bills in the lead. In the second quarter, the Bills are handed an automatic first down when Chiefs and defense player #57 was flagged for holding. By this point, the Chiefs had scored a touchdown making the score 7-9 with the Chiefs leading. Once the Bills gained that lead they only lost it for a moment before securing it again and holding onto it for the rest of the game. Cook for the Bills was able to clinch a touchdown pass giving the Bills back their lead with a score of 13-7. Unfortunately, at the end of quarter two Chiefs coach Andy Ried called a timeout voiding a play that would have given the Chiefs another touchdown and the lead. Neither team scored any points in Quarter 3 as both teams seemed to be great at keeping their opponents at bay and from gaining too many yards if any at all.

The most impressive play from quarter 3 was Hopkins rolling an extra few yards to secure a first down for the Chiefs. Quarter 4 was the quarter where fans on both sides were on the edges of their respective seats at home and in the stadium as it was the last chance to win. At this point, the score was 21-23 with the Bills continuing to lead and at 4th&2 Allen decided to run for a touchdown. He makes it and hands the Bills a 25-yard touchdown. The field attempt was good, giving the Bills an extra point leaving the score to be 30-21. Little did the fans know that this would be the final score. The Chiefs took possession of the ball with 2:17 left to go in the game but they just couldn’t make it to the endzone. The game-winning play was a stunning interception by Bernard, a Buffalo Bills player giving the Bills possession with a little less than a minute and a half to go in the game. With that play, the Bills destroyed the undefeated streak the Chiefs once had and the Bills’ bye-week is well deserved after today’s game. In the post-game interviews, Josh Allen called the win “A regular week 11 win.”
