Caitlin Clark, a young rising star from the Iowa Women’s Basketball program has recently broken a record set in place since 2017. Formerly held by Kelsey Plum, Clark broke her all time scoring record for any female athlete in the NCAA.

Plum had scored 3,527 points throughout her collegiate career, the most set by any female athlete. Now, Plum is a WNBA phenomenon taking her talents to the Las Vegas Aces.

Who is this new lady baller who is flooding the media? Caitlin Clark is a 22 year old point guard from Iowa, who had been playing basketball since she was five years old. She played four years on her high school varsity basketball team, but she had been getting attention from college since elementary school. She received endless offers from big name institutions, but she ultimately decided to commit to Iowa University her sophomore year of high school.

She was already making a name for herself back then, being ranked as the top recruit for her graduating class. She was also awarded Iowa Gatorade player of the year in 2020, and was invited to compete in the Jordan Brand Classic and McDonald’s All American Game, but was unable to participate due to both of those events being canceled by the Covid-19 pandemic. Needless to say, going into her college years she had already established an impressive career.

Clark had always been a super star. During her first collegiate season, she set the Iowa basketball programs freshman scoring and rebound records, and joined the team as their starting point guard. Becoming a starter so early in a college athletic career is uncommon, but Clark sailed to the top upon arrival to her new team.

In their matchup against Michigan, Clark only needed nine points to surpass the record. She delivered quickly, scoring the record breaking points from a three point shot. The crowd screamed once the shot was made, as she had finally broken the record she was working so hard to break. As of February 25th, Clark has 3,569 points to her name. She is now striving to break yet another record, but this time to become the all time leading scorer of any NCAA college basketball player.

Pete Maravich is currently holds the NCAA all time scorer record with a total of 3,667 points to his name. He has held this record since 1970! Clark is extremely close to passing this record and becoming the all time leading scorer for both mens and women’s collegiate basketball. On top of all of this, she still has one year left of eligibility due to the pandemic. Caitlin Clark is a powerhouse name and will continue to be so.
