Ingredients:
1 cup Shortening
1 cup Granulated Sugar
1 cup Molasses
2 tablespoons Vinegar
1.5 teaspoons Baking Soda
0.5 teaspoons Salt
2 to 3 teaspoons Ground Ginger
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
1 teaspoon Ground Cloves
1 Egg
5 cups Flour
Directions:
Start by creaming the shortening and sugar, then beat in the egg, molasses and
vinegar. Sift together all dry ingredients and blend them in with the wet ingredients. Next, chill the dough for at least 3 hours. Roll-out dough to about 1/8 inch thick on a lightly floured surface. Then cut into shapes (Ginger bread men/women/children). Place 1 inch apart on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees for five to six minutes. Cool slightly, and remove to rack. You can now decorate using icing, sprinkles, gumdrops, and various other candies. This recipe makes about five-dozen cookies!
