On Tuesday, Nov. 12, the History Club held a meeting dedicated to unpacking boxes of books donated to the campus by a variety of sources at Bacon Hall, the location of the History Department on campus. Most of the books donated were history textbooks, memoirs, and historical reviews with several creditable references within each one. The History Club is one of many clubs that specialize in topics focusing on history.

Olivia Neumann, the public relations officer of the History Club, has been with the club since she was a freshman and has been on the E-Board since her sophomore year. According to Neumann, the History Club promotes history, historical information, events, and activities. Some activities of the History Club include helping students with their history essays, sharing event information for professors, helping with events, and hosting presentations. Neumann joined the History Club because she wanted to meet more people with similar interests, but she also wanted to expand her knowledge on the subject. Additionally, Neumann shares that joining the club is an excellent way to network and make connections.

Renata Palladino, the History Club’s president, has been a member since her freshman year and has been on the E-Board since her junior year. Palladino shared that the History Club creates a community for history students that want to break away from traditional history applied in an academic setting. Through the History Club, students can engage in the subject in a fun way. Palladino expressed how important it is to bridge the gap between students and the campus’ history. One of the ways is to visit Milne Library and ask to learn about something specific regarding the college, such as the tunnels under the campus or the bunker the school owns. Apparently, the tunnels were used by students during the winter to traverse across campus despite the snow.

Isi Dawson, a new member of the History Club, originally discovered it through Campus Connection before visiting the club’s booth at Club eXpo. To Dawson’s delight, the members of the club were very welcoming at the interest meeting which promoted Dawson to become a member. What’s become Dawson’s favorite activity at the club is the book sorting as the books hold interesting content.

Students don’t need to be history majors in order to join. The History Club’s members encourage anyone with an interest to stop by their next meeting. The History Club meets bi-weekly Tuesdays in Fitzelle Hall 203.
