One of the biggest events that happens during the spring semester for SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick College students is OH-Fest. The annual concert happens in the Alumni Field House. Former OH-Fest acts include T-Pain, Flo Rida, Ke$ha, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and even Panic! At The Disco. Local student bands and solo acts have the chance to share the stage with this year’s OH-Fest act by opening for them that night through the Battle of the Bands style event – dubbed OH-Factor.
This year’s OH-Fest act is trap artist Wacka Flocka Flame and rapper Young M.A., taking place on April 27 in the Dewar Arena at 7 p.m. Tickets go onsale on March 4. OH-Factor takes place on April 3 at 8 p.m. in IRC 3 and 5. Bands and solo acts of all genres are encouraged to apply. Whether you are a country solo act, a hip hop artist, or a full indie rock band, you can have the chance to perform a few songs in front of an audience of voters to share the stage with Wacka Flocka. OH-Factor is for SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick students and alumni only. If a group all members do not have to be students or alumni but most should be.
If you aren’t interested in performing, you can sit in the audience and choose who you want to see open! Voters must be there the entire time in order to vote, with the show lasting between an hour to an hour and a half, depending on how many acts will be performing. When one band performs, the audience will move to the next room in IRC to watch the next band, and switch after each one. It is a great chance to see the talented musicians of Oneonta, and have a voice in who you want to see perform.
Signups are due on March 8. Bands or artists need to submit their name, a short bio to be read by the MC, and provide equipment information – a process that won’t take more than five minutes for a grand opportunity.
Indie rock band Rib and the Bones has had the opportunity to open for Flo Rida and T-Pain at the past two OH-Fests because they performed at OH-Factor. Comprised of students Mia Abazis, Mirabella Phinney, AJ Horton, and Chris Alvarado.
“Performing at OH-Factor has been such a great experience for our band! Even though it’s a competition, everyone is so supportive,” they said. “We’ve had the opportunity to perform twice at OH-Factor and we’re very excited to play again this year for our last semester at Oneonta. If anyone is thinking about auditioning, you definitely should. Being able to play in a supportive environment while listening to multi-talented musicians is something you don’t want to miss out on. If you’re not a musician, come out to vote and enjoy a night of great performances. We hope to see you there!”
