Previewing The Congress’ Rock and Roll Show

Do you miss some good ol’ rock and roll? Are you a fan of stripped down music that relies on its heart and soul to draw you in? Then be sure to check out Denver band The Congress at the Oneonta Theatre! On September 24, the band will be bringing their signature style to the stage for a free show with Squid Parade opening the bill.

The Congress is currently on their longest tour to date in support of their first full length album “Whatever You Want.” Single “Distance” instantly reels you in with a bluesy guitar riff reminiscent of southern rock great Lynyrd Skynyrd. Supported by a driving tom and snare back-beat and gutsy vocals, you can’t help but be mesmerized by the throwback sound.

The band isn’t strictly about re-creating an old feel though, having graced the stage with current artists such as Grace Potter and Johnny Lang. The three-piece brings to mind the beautiful simplicity of bands such as current hit-makers the Black Keys. Another great song “Whatever You Want” spaces out the sound with a groovy bass line and intricate drums that complement each other perfectly. The track builds and builds amidst soothing three- part vocal harmonies while the band goes off with a funky solo and busy drums.

Once again, do yourself a favor and check these guys out. Kick back and relax while The Congress puts on a fantastic performance, reminding everyone what great rock and roll music is all about.
