WONY DJ Spotlight: Meet the Dan and Pat Show!

Tracey Cheek, Arts EditorIMG_1605

Tracey Cheek: What is the name of your show?

Dan Hartner: The Dan and Pat Show!

TC: Do you have a DJ name? If so, what?

DH: To be honest, we don’t have DJ names. My best friend Patrick Flood and I have been doing the show since freshman year and we always kept it pretty original by sticking to our first names.

TC: When is your show?

DH: Our show is on Sundays from 12-2 p.m. We’ve had the same timeslot for four years now and it’s perfect. We’ve planned our shows around what happens during that time of day.

TC: How did you get involved with WONY?

DH: Before Pat and I even arrived to Oneonta freshman year, we had met and knew we wanted to do a radio show. Once we got to campus, we went through the training that was necessary and the rest is history.

TC: Are there any other shows on WONY that you listen to?

DH: We can’t say that we listen to the station on a regular basis, but I know Alex Park runs a cool show actually directly after us, so you should definitely check him out as well.

TC: What genre of music is played on your show?

DH: We like to play a lot of different music on our show but on an average day you’ll hear anything from The Black Keys, Young Buffalo, or even Zac Brown Band. If you can sing along with it, there’s a chance we’ve played it on the show.

TC: What makes your segment different from others?

DH: I like to think Pat and I have a special comedic bond when the two of us are thrown in front of the mics. Our show is a mix of music, sports, news, and just us being goofy. I’m not sure what else a listener could ask for.

TC: What are your favorite songs to play on the radio?

DH: Right now it’s been so miserable outside that we’ve been playing a lot of Zac Brown Band to make it seem warmer. “Toes” is a song that literally makes you feel like you’re on a beach.

TC: Why should students tune into your WONY show?

DH: Students should tune into our show because what else are you doing on a Sunday afternoon while you nurse that hangover? We have a good time on air and we hope that you’d enjoy listening too!
