SUNY Oneonta Heads To Broadway

Averi Amsterdam, Staff Writer

Each semester, SUNY Oneonta offers students a day trip to New York City and tickets to a Broadway show. For a day in the city, bus, and ticket combined, the price (70 dollars) is unbeatable. This is a great opportunity for students who live too far from NYC to have ever been or even for students who live a train ride from the city and want to get a little taste of home in between breaks.

This semester’s show was Matilda. Catching the bus bright and early at 7 a.m., the weather cooperated and provided a beautiful day for enjoying the hustle and bustle of the city. The Broadway show wasn’t until 2 p.m. giving us a few hours to explore before. The bus dropped us off at Bryant Park, which at this time of year has cute shops set up and an ice skating rink. It wasn’t too far of a walk from Times Square or Rockefeller Center, allowing us to enjoy some of the popular sights NYC has to offer.

Matilda, based off the book by Roald Dahl, was a great production filled with catchy tunes and talented child actors. The set was creative, providing unique use of the stage and props, adding to the overall display. I went to the show unsure if I would enjoy it, but I left pleasantly surprised.

I am looking forward to whatever show is chosen for the spring semester and enjoying another day trip to the city. If you have the next Saturday free, I recommend going on this trip.
