WONY 90.9fm DJ Spotlight: Daniel Hartner & Patrick Flood

Marielle Genovesi, Arts Editor

For those of you who are avid listeners [as we are at The State Times] of our student run radio station, WONY 90.9fm, you may often find yourself wondering who belongs to the lovely voices coming out of your radio, cause we certainly do. So for the sake of WONY listeners on campus and around town, we give our readers a little one-on-one with the DJs of WONY 90.9fm every week.

Marielle Genovesi: What are your DJ names if you have any?

Daniel Hartner/Patrick Flood: Our DJ names are our actual names, just Dan and Pat (laughs). We have more of a talk show with some music. We like to make things easy as opposed to having crazy DJ names.

MG: When/at what times do you usually DJ for WONY?

DH/PF: Our show airs every Sunday from 12-2 p.m. We picked the time because we figured it would be the easiest time for people to listen. It’s also a great way for our listeners to quell their hangovers.

MG: How did you both get involved with WONY?

DH/PF: It was a no brainer for us. We were both interested in doing the radio freshmen year–we are both juniors now–and wanted to pursue a radio show.

MG: How long have you both been involved with WONY?

DH/PF: We started the show during the fall semester of 2012 which was our freshmen year.

MG: What genre of music do you usually play?

DH/PF: We play a variety of music but our most played genre would be alternative rock

MG: Do you do anything unique or different during your segment on the show?

DH/PF: Well most of our show is segment-and talking-based. The show could be described as a sarcastic brand of humor with sports mixed in. We have our own Weekend Update-style of news, along with some other comedic segments. Another key part of our show is our ability to not take ourselves so seriously, which creates a quick and energetic vibe that we hope stays throughout the show.

MG: What are some of your favorite songs to feature/play as of late?

DH/PF: Some artists that we have been playing recently are The Black Keys, Catfish and the Bottlemen–weird name, great band–and Kendrick Lamar.

MG: Why should students tune into WONY during your segment?

DH/PF: Students should tune into The Dan and Pat Show because it’s unique, entertaining and hilarious…Now enough about what our parents think. But seriously, it’s an entertaining show and students will either laugh with us or at us, either way we appreciate the listeners!
