Around 2AM on Sunday the 16th morning New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was shot after an argument about clothing choices. According to The Independent Boyd, two teammates and another friend were on their way to an Asian Fusion restaurant in Midtown called Sei Less. As they made their way inside, a group of men began to harass the group about the clothes they chose to wear. Part of the taunting involved the strangers asking “Do you think you’re better than us?” Boyd and his group spent around 10 minutes in the restaurant before deciding that they did not like it and left. When they left, the group of men from earlier started to taunt them again.

The second argument quickly escalated and got physical with one of the taunters pulling out a gun. Detective Joseph Kenny called the argument a “Pretty chaotic scene. Probably about 50 to 60 people out there. People are running,” Boyd was shot in the abdomen and was quickly transported to NYC Health and Hospitals Bellevue in critical but stable condition at the time. Kenny revealed that the bullet entered Boyd’s abdomen, traveled to his lung, and lodged itself in his pulmonary artery.

No one could recognize the shooter, and he fled on foot before getting into a white BMW after running for two blocks. The police have asked the public for help identifying the shooter saying he was wearing multicolored sneakers, a black sweatshirt, black pants, a black cap, and a black book bag.

The Wednesday after the shooting Boyd posted on his Instagram a photo of himself in a hospital gown sharing that he was able to breathe on his own again. Boyd wrote “God is real, God is powerful! I’m sorry I have no words at the moment..Just grateful! I’m coming along, starting to breathe on my own now. Sincerely appreciate everyone!” New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn said that Boyd sounded positive and upbeat in a conversation he had with him and shared his belief that Boyd will walk away from this perfectly fine.

According to The New York Post, the two other players with Boyd that night were Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood and Jets wide receiver Irvin Charles. Neither Sherwood or Charles were injured during the shooting.

The club Sei Less released a statement denying any involvement in the violence. “The altercation involving Kris Boyd occurred outside our establishment and after the restaurant had closed. Since the onset of the police investigation, we have been fully cooperative with law enforcement and shared the appropriate security footage to assist their inquiry. The safety of our customers and employees is of utmost importance and we take tremendous pride in having cultivated a safe and welcoming dining environment for all.” Sei Less has been popular in Midtown Manhattan for years and has become a favorite for sports and hip-hop stars.

Boyd is recovering and Glenn has not confirmed what this shooting and recovery means for Boyd’s career and future in the NFL.
