This year’s award season continues on with the Screen Actors Guild Awards also known as the Sag Awards. The awards had been streamed live on Netflix with Kristen Bell not only present as host, but also as a nominee. She had been nominated for Female Actor in a Comedy Series because of her role in romantic comedy “Nobody Wants This.” According to Time Magazine, one memorable moment from the show was Bell performing a parody of “Do You Want To Build A Snowman?” titled “Do You Want To Be An Actor?” showcasing the early acting roles of many in attendance including Jodie Foster in her Coppertone Ad and Kieran Culkin for his role in Home Alone as a kid.
Another highlight mentioned by Time Magazine is an homage the ceremony did for Hollywood’s Scream Queens. Coupled together with a montage of screams were interviews with Neve Campbell and Jenna Ortega stars of “Scream” and Jamie Lee Curtis star of “Halloween.” Curtis made sure to announce that “I’ve been screaming myself hoarse since the Carter administration.”
As Kristen Bell had a plethora of memorable moments from the SAG Awards including seeing various co-stars of her past, all of whom seemed to want to be called her favorite co-star. The winner of that particular title went to a sloth who Bell freaked out over in a viral video. According to Time Magazine she said “That sloth is the closest thing I’ll ever have to a s** tape.” before showing a photo of the beloved sloth to end the evening.
Jane Fonda was honored with the Life Achievement Award for the six decades she has spent double dipping in the worlds of acting and activism. USA Today quoted her as saying “This means the world to me, And your enthusiasm makes it seem less like a late twilight of my life and more like a ‘Go, girl. Kick a**,’ which is good because I’m not done.” Part of her speech commented on the uncertain political climate the U.S is facing by saying “woke just means you give a damn about other people.”
Selena Gomez was shocked by “Only Murders In The Building” winning the award for Best TV Comedy Ensemble considering the show had lost in years prior to shows “Ted Lasso,” “Abbott Elementary,” and “The Bear.” Gomez reacted by saying “Wait, we never win. This is so weird.” She was not expecting to win but she was happy nonetheless pledging to bring the award back to New York for season 5.
Kieran Culkin took home the award for Supporting Actor and spent his 45 second speech rambling about the size of the award before thanking actor Jesse Eisenberg’s sister for getting him casted in “A Real Pain” saying “Thank you, Hallie, for thinking of me and putting my name in your stupid brother’s ear.” He did make sure to thank his wife and kids as he counted down the timer set for acceptance speeches.
The award season continues with The Oscars which will bring a new set of memorable and potentially viral moments to look back at just as the SAG Awards have given.
