While We Wait 2 Album Review

Ariana Mehmeti, Staff Writer

R&B singer Kehlani has finally released part two to her second studio album, “While We Wait.’’ If you knew me personally you would know Kehlani is one of my favorite R&B artists. As we usually do it with my album reviews, I will be going track by track rating each song by one through ten. I will only be discussing twelve tracks rather than fourteen due to the last two tracks being remixes of songs she has already had out. Now, let’s get to business:

Track 1: Love Like

This song sounds like it’s straight from the early 2000s/late 90s, especially in the beginning with the backing vocals. This song starts off the album strong with the emotions of wanting deep and passionate love, and having someone reciprocate that. This really shows Kehlani’s new style of R&B that she shows in her other new album, “Crash!”.

Rating:  9/10

Track 2: When He’s Not There (feat. Lucky Daye)

This song has techno R&B vibes with a story being told within the lines. This song is about Kehlani loving a woman who is with a man, and has a secret relationship with her hence why it is called, “When He’s Not There”. Part of Kehlani is fine with being kept a secret but, another part of her wants something more.

Rating: 9/10

Track 3: Clothes Off (feat. KWN)

This track is a sensual song about making love. The song starts off with moaning as the backing vocals that really sets off the meaning of the song. Singer, KWN, starts off the song almost ‘‘taunting’’ the lover she is talking to saying, ‘‘don’t be scared I ain’t scared.” This song is overall sexy!

Rating: 10/10

Track 4: S.I.N.G.L.E

This song is about being single but feeling as if you’re never gonna find love again. In this song, S.I.N.G.L.E stands for, “So I’m Never Gonna Love Ever”. Kehlani is saying that she feels she’s never gonna love ever again because of all of the bad relationships she’s had. This is a top song for me.

Rating: 10/10

Track 5: Know Better (feat. Lil’ Mo & Vince Staples)

This song is another sensual song about a no-strings-attached relationship that both of the people in the relationship know isn’t going to work out but still do it anyway. Vince Staples’ verse in this is soothing and very appropriate for this song.

Rating: 10/10

Track 6: Border

This song is about no matter what future relationship Kehlani has, she’s not going to trust that person no matter if they are an angel. With its melancholy rhythm and lyrics, the song explains the disappointment Kehlani’s been through. She feels like there is no good left and she might as well leave the relationship. We have all been there and this song is by far the most relatable one off this album. And has melancholy rhythm and lyrics.

Rating: 10/10

Track 7: Form of You (feat. DESTIN CONRAD and CHILDOFNINES)

CHILDOFNINES starts off the song with a beautiful spoken word to set the mood. This song is a beautiful soulful poetic prelude about how the person she is singing about is truly the love of her life and if she lost this person she would “go blind” and not be the same person.

Rating: 8/10

Track 8: Let Me Down (San Diego Interlude)

This song is about begging someone not to be let down again. Yet, they do over and over again. The vocals and melancholy undertones of this song captures the essence of Kehlani’s message.

Rating: 9/10

Track 9: Around

The song has a very interesting beat and rhythm to it, it’s not something her fans expected to go with the lyrics but it’s great!

Rating: 8/10

Track 10: Ballin’

The song is cleverly written by using the term “Ballin” as in playing games with the relationship she is in. It’s a smooth R&B track that almost seems like Kehlani is giving it up being in love, instead seeing it as a situationship.

Rating: 9/10

Track 11: First Life

This song is about wondering if she should finally be alone because she loves too hard and she doesn’t even know what she wants anymore.

Rating: 10/10

Track 12: Slow Dance (Feat. DIXSON)

At the end of the day, one thing Kehlani is going to do is never disappoint in her music especially with this sensual song.

Rating: 8/10

This album overall was amazing and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! Go listen now to “While We Wait 2’’and experience Kehlani’s soulful journey.
