Prince William has made his first public appearance since Princess Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis last month in a heartfelt video. The Prince of Wales returned to his royal duties and was seen helping the needy at a youth center and at a food bank in London, carrying boxes of food while engaging with volunteers.

On March 22, the Princess of Wales revealed she had undergone a major abdominal surgery back in January where cancer was detected. The type of cancer she has was not specified in her announcement, but she is now undergoing her first rounds of chemotherapy treatment. Princess Kate also expressed sympathy for those who have gone through this battle, saying “For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”

The announcement came after people on social media started speculating what happened to the Princess, as she had not been heard from in months. Conspiracy theories went viral on apps TikTok and X before it was officially revealed why she had been gone for so long. People believed she had a body double or even a botched plastic surgery and were very concerned for her wellbeing. When all these were proven false, many felt bad after the fact for making jokes and speculating on her whereabouts.

In her announcement, she explained that William has supported her throughout this health ordeal. “Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance as has the love support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you,” she explained. Being surrounded by family, including her three children, is of utmost importance to her.

E! News reported that Prince William was accepting well wishes at the food bank, as one volunteer handed him a get well soon card reportedly asking him to look after his wife. The Telegraph reported he thanked her, placed his hand on her shoulder, and said, “I will.”

TODAY reported The Prince was also seen recently with his eldest son George cheering on their favorite soccer team. The family is keeping out of the public eye for the time being and focusing on supporting Princess Kate during this difficult time, needing “some time, space and privacy,” she said in her announcement. TODAY also reported she is not working from home but is taking the time off to rest and be healthy.

Kensington Palace told TODAY that she’ll restart her public-facing royal duties when she feels ready, and to not read into her first public appearances as she may not seem like herself. The Prince and Princess celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary on April 29 in what was sure to have been a private event. Despite the hard times hitting the Royal family, they are still putting effort in to give back to their country and bring people together.
