SUNY Oneonta students looking for a boost of energy, connection, and country-style fun have a new club waiting for them. The Oneonta Line Dancing Club has officially launched, bringing a fun new activity to the spotlight.
The idea first sparked during the founders’ freshman year, when Chloe Camburn, Hailey Baker, and Laney Corado found themselves bonding over their shared love of line dancing. Despite their enthusiasm, they quickly realized there was nowhere they could express this form of dance.
When talking with Camburn, she explained that, “We loved to line dance, but there were no line dancing clubs or places to go anywhere near Oneonta.” Instead of letting that stop them, Camburn proposed the idea of starting their own club.
It took until the start of the 2025 school year for the idea to take shape. Together, the trio launched the Oneonta Line Dancing Club. Baker took on the role of president, Corado as vice president, and Camburn as secretary. Another friend of theirs, Tori Valdez, stepped in as treasurer. Together, the club runs smoothly, with the original co-founders teaching the weekly sessions and Valdez helping with the music.
Camburn’s decision not to take on the presidency, despite pitching the idea for the club, reflects the thoughtful planning behind the club’s creation. As a new Resident Advisor, she knew her schedule would be unpredictable. “I didn’t know how much time I would have because I was new to being an RA,” she said. “I knew that Hailey and Laney would be able to do everything I wouldn’t be able to do.” Her choice highlights the club’s commitment to a well-run organization.
What unites the entire e-board is a genuine love for the craft and a desire to share it with others. “All four of us are very passionate about the club,” Camburn emphasized. That passion shows up every Wednesday from 5–6 p.m. at the Hulbert Event Center, where the club meets for an hour of instruction, practice, and fun. Whether students arrive as seasoned dancers or complete beginners, they’re welcomed with open arms and guided through steps at a comfortable pace.
The club’s atmosphere is intentionally inclusive and upbeat. Line dancing is as much about community as it is about choreography. It’s a space where students can unwind, learn something new, and connect with peers they might never have met otherwise. The founders hope the club becomes a weekly routine for students seeking a break from academic stress and wanting true connection with others, as well as with dance.
But, the team isn’t stopping at weekly meetings. Their long-term goal is to grow the club enough to gain the opportunity and funding to host larger events. This includes possible themed dance nights and collaborations with other clubs. The possibilities are endless, and the Oneonta Line Dancing club e-board is ready to take the next steps.
To support this up and coming club, join them every Wednesday from 5-6pm at the Hulbert Event Center, and spread the news!
