This past Tuesday the 9th of September, the GSRC held a meet and greet at their office on the second floor of Hunt Union. The GSRC is one of the oldest centers on campus, established in the early 2000s as a women’s center. Around 2001/2002 the center was expanded to include gender and sexual identities. The GSRC is Suny Oneontas Gender Sexuality Resource Center. Their office had some baked goods and the new head of the center, Dr. Jasmine Buenviaje, was greeting visitors. She is the fourth head of the center and the first person of color to hold this position.

Dr. Buenviaje is in the process of revamping the GSRC. One project they are working on is a collaborating intersection series, where the center will help create events that connect different identities that don’t fall under the gender and sexuality categories. 2026 will be the GSRC’s 25th year in operation, so she is planning a big celebration for the center’s silver anniversary. They are also creating a digital archive of the GSRC’s events in collaboration with Milne Library.

The GSRC provides a safe space, support, resources, and education for SUNY Oneonta students and employees regarding gender and sexuality. The center is open from Monday through Friday, 3:00pm to 9:00pm.
