September 5, 2025 was the first day of Sunday football for the 2025 NFL season. The New York Jets took on the Pittsburgh Steelers for a close game, with the Steelers winning 34-32.

The current Steelers Quarterback is 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers. He is currently the oldest player in the NFL. Rodgers joined the NFL in 2005 when the Green Bay Packers drafted him in the first round. After the Packers starting Quarterback, Brett Favre, left, Aaron Rodgers became Green Bay’s starting Quarterback in 2008. After 18 years with the Packers, Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets in 2023.

Within the first five minutes of his first game as a Jet, Leonard Floyd of the Buffalo Bills sacked Rodgers. This caused his Achilles tendon to tear, putting him out for the entire season. Rodgers healed up for the 2024 season, where the Jets record ended up being 5-12.

Fans were outraged at Rodgers, especially since many of them had hoped that he would “save” the Jets. Several of these fans took to social media, theorizing that he also made a lot of behind-the-scenes decisions for the Jets. One example of a decision they believe he made was getting Davante Adams on the team, whom he heavily favored on the field.

After the 2024 season, the Jets hired Aaron Glenn as the new head coach. Rodgers appeared on The Pat McAfee Show where he explained that Glenn decided to drop him from the team. It was a quick and painful meeting that Rodgers was not happy about. He then became a free agent, and the Pittsburgh Steelers picked him up.

Aaron Rodgers became the Steelers starting Quarterback for the 2025 season. He started for the first game of the season against the Jets. Rodgers dominated on the field against his old team. As reported by ESPN, he had four passing touchdowns and 244 yards. He completed 22 of 30 passing attempts, which included 4 of 5 for 62 yards and a touchdown pass to Wide Receiver Skowronek.

Justin Fields replaced Aaron Rodgers as the new starting Quarterback for the Jets. In the same game, Fields had only one passing touchdown and 218 yards. He completed 16 of 22 passing attempts.

As seen through the stats, Rodgers brought the heat in the game against the Jets. Although a team is a combination of their defense and offense, it was pretty clear that Rodgers was leading the Steelers through his own sort of revenge game.

During his post-game interview, Rodgers stated that, “There were people in the [Jets] organization that didn’t think I could play anymore, so it was nice to remind those people that I still can.” He continued and exclaimed, “I’m just happy to beat everybody associated with the Jets.”

Rodgers did add that what happened with the Jets is in the past, and that he had no hard feelings. He is happy with the win for the Steelers and is excited for what the rest of the season could look like.
