Kesha has been in the public eye for almost fifteen years. Originally, she began her career with a cameo in Flo Rida’s 2009 Right Round. After which, she then signed on with a record label, RCA, and released her debut album, Animal, in 2010.

Kesha has been living true to herself since the establishment of Kesha Records in September of 2024 and her release of Joyride in July of 2024. Kesha in a statement according to Variety, regarding her label, states, “My name has become synonymous with transparency, integrity, and safety, and I want to ensure that these values are upheld for myself and any future artists signed to my label. Music has the power to connect the world, and I aspire for my work to be a beacon of light and goodness. I am excited to take control of my narrative and rewrite my story in the music business.”

The energy Kesha has continued into November as she has now released her newest single, Delusional. Delusional is following her beliefs on freedom and taking a dig at her ex, according to the Rolling Stones. Just like with much of Kesha’s music, Delusional is of the pop genre. However, according to Forbes, Delusional reconnects with her earlier records like Rainbow from 2017 and Gag Order in 2023 by having a more acoustic take.

To Forbes, Kesha explains, “If you feel rage, people can go bash a window of a car, but for me, if I feel rage, I take it to the studio and I currently surround myself with incredibly safe people that help me take my emotion and we alchemize it into song. So, it’s become the way I process life and the beautiful part of writing music or making any art of any kind is that you get to process something in, hopefully, a safe way.” Throughout the song, there is a rage towards her ex. “Thanks for the heartbreak, it gets my bills paid” and “I’m sick of the fighting. Sick of the climbing. You made me hate this town. Baby, you’re delusional” both encapsulate Kesha’s frustrations well.

It is believed the song is about an ex because of Kesha’s posts the week prior in the release. According to the Rolling Stones, “’My ex should hide on friday,’ Kesha tweeted on Nov. 26. She also shared a snippet of the song, captioning it: ‘Thanks to my idiot ex. u inspired my best song yet.’” Interestingly, in a Variety article, after the departure from her original labels, Kemosabe and RCA, Kesha posted a tweet stating, “First day I’ve owned my voice in 19 years. Welcome.” Then followed it with her teaser to her newest single, Delusional. Leaving a record label may feel similar to leaving an ex, so Delusional could be about her prior label.

Kesha is the icon of freedom and expression within the music industry. She knows when to live it up to have fun and when to dig deep to better connect with others. There are so many exciting things to continue for Kesha going into 2025.
