It’s that time of year when snow coats the ground and final exams begin. Suffice to say comfort is needed and what better way to feel comfort than to cuddle up on the couch to watch Christmas movies. The next challenge to overcome is deciding what to watch. Never fear, here are the top five Christmas movies to watch this year. 

1: Meet Me In St. Louis (1944) 

Starting off at the top of the list is the Christmas musical Meet Me In St. Louis starring the famous Judy Garland. This moving film follows four sisters as they begin to understand life, beauty, and love all while celebrating the holidays. The film has been characterized as disarmingly sweet by critics and a holiday movie for all of the ages to enjoy this season. 

2: Die Hard (1988) 

Home Alone is what could be described as MacGuyver meeting Christmas. The film has had many lines and scenes rise to popularity over the years since its release. The film follows eight-year-old Kevin McCallister who’s left home alone by accident and must protect his house from two bulgars. The MacGuyver aspect comes into play with Kevin’s creativity to prevent the burglars from successfully robbing his house. One popular scene, referred to as “The Home Alone Face,” is one of the many elements that make this film a classic. This is when the main character puts on aftershave in the bathroom and screams into the mirror as a reaction.

3: Elf (2003) 

Of course Elf was going to make its way onto this list! This film is a holiday classic for those who want to laugh and feel the holiday spirit at the same time. Elf stars Will Ferrell as the joyful Buddy, a human adopted by elves after sneaking into Santa Claus’s sack as a baby, who travels to New York City to find his father and adapt to life outside the North Pole. 

4: Home Alone (1990)

Not only is the film plenty of fun to watch, it is a classic to watch during the holiday season.
